ARU’s education program is designed to support Bhutanese Nepali high school students as they navigate their educational journey and prepare for college, careers, and other post-secondary opportunities. Through mentorship, leadership development, culturally responsive workshops, and connections to resources, the program helps students build confidence, expand their networks, and better understand opportunities available to them.
The program also works to address barriers that many first-generation students and families experience by providing guidance and support that is culturally and linguistically relevant to the Nepali-speaking Bhutanese community. Ultimately, the program aims to create more access to opportunities and empower young people to pursue their goals either in academics or in any other area they are passionate about.
ARU members are certified as cultural navigators and translators by Capital Area Intermediate Unit 15 (CAIU 15) to work across different school districts in the Greater Harrisburg Area, helping inform staff and further bridge gaps.
First Steps Forward is an educational program for high school juniors and seniors in the Nepali-speaking Bhutanese community. The program offers guidance on college and career planning, leadership development, and post-secondary pathways through engaging workshops, peer connections, and culturally responsive mentors.
